Burleigh Heads - A beach and a rain forest trail

It didn't rain as it was predicted yesterday and weather was very clear, alas my friends missed on going to Byron bay, but we had plans for Burleigh heads today. It was again a short 20km drive from south port and we were there by 11am. Parking was a big issue especially being a Saturday morning and we had to do a few rounds until someone decided it was enough surfing.

Australians love their beaches and Burleigh heads undoubtedly seemed very popular among them, especially the surfers.

There was lots of surfing happening. I was watching them with this 'nostalgia' wishing I could swim. It was amazing how they manoeuvered towards the ocean, picked the correct wave and glided those waves.

Now that none of us could do surfing or swimming, we decided to take the rain forest trail by the beach. The trail has several entrances and we took the entrance at the beach. Walk up to the end of the popular surfing area and you will find this trail. There's limited parking here and the chances you'll get to park here is slim cos of all the surfers. The initial part of the trail goes along the beach with nice breeze and beautiful views of the Pacific. You can even see a few daring surfers who bypass the popular areas for surfing and come here for a secluded surf.

The trail then goes into the forest. The shaded trail is an oasis from the scorching sun. It's pretty amazing how a rain forest just ends at the sea. Wouldn't the salinity of the soil stunt these trees? Looks like not. It was quite an easy trail to navigate with sub paths.

The Tumgun lookout on this trail gives amazing views of the Pacific with Gold Coast city in the horizon. An air asia flight has just taken off from the Gold coast airport. I think I am going to fly budget next time.

We were quite hungry after the walk. There are lots of restaurants around the beach, we settled with the bowlers club, it has 10 dollar meals for lunch, which in fact was quite tasty but not filling. I had to come home and have lunch again!
