Warratina Lavendar Farm
My uncle's family invited me to join with them to visit the Warratina lavendar festival. I was quite keen on this as I have heard how beautiful lavender farms were. The day before, I prepared the cheesecake I had promised my cousin. As usual I was late to wake up, packed the cheese cake in a hurry, damaged the cheesecake on my way with a sudden break and arrived at my uncle's by mid morning. We took off to Warratina which took us about 1 hour.
As expected the place was filled with people. There were 2 separate patches of lavender. They were still in the bloom, still not fully blossomed. To be honest I was kind of visually underwhelmed. I was expecting a lavender farm which runs to the horizon. Instead it was may be 50m each. The smell of the lavender made up for the lack of a visual treat. What a soothing smell... Bees were going extasic over the lavenders too for the smell or nectar I was not sure. I thought the dried leaves smelt even better.
There were a few activities going around the place. A group of girls dressed in asian dance costumes were posing for pictures. Two bag pipe players were going down the field blowing their bag pipes dressed in their full Scottish attire. A one man walking musical show was following the bag pipe players and he stopped by a little girl to sing for her.
Geethani akka had well prepared herself for a nice picnic but unfortunately there was no place to lay her newly bought rug and have a lie down. Instead we stood by a garden chair and had the very nice prawn noodles lunch she had prepared.
After taking all the pictures sitting like this and standing like that and of course selfies, we had a stroll around the little make shift shops that were setup around the field. There were many things lavender there, from dried flowers to icecream. I bought a bag of dried pettles to keep in my cupboard to make clothes smell better.
It was a beautiful day out and we headed home in a car smelling of lavender.
